Midnight Deluge

For me, there is a profound intimacy in the moments just before a storm breaks. In this piece, I wanted to capture the silent intensity of a midnight sky—not as a place of darkness, but as a vessel for light. I’ve always felt a deep pull toward the power of the atmosphere, and here, I’ve rendered that massive rain cloud as a living, breathing entity.

By layering luminous teal and turquoise against the obsidian void, I used a textured background of crackle glaze and stucco aimed to show the physical weight of the rain as it prepares to descend. To me, this painting isn't just a landscape; it’s a reflection of my own awe for the earth’s cycles—the way the sky can feel heavy with grief one moment and electric with life the next. The vertical textures are my way of tracing the path of water as it blurs the line between the heavens and the ground beneath our feet.
